Shane Douglas

This is the start of a Shane Douglas Tribute.

I'll say this much about Douglas, he manages to stay in the news. Throughout his career, he has always been a decent "worker", but not what most people would call great. By staying in the news, and staying controversial, Douglas has positioned himself as a top star in pro wrestling. The guy has obviously worked hard to get this far in the business, but he's probably not quite as good as some people think, or perhaps as good as he thinks he is!

In February 2000, he saw some of his best mates in the business walk out on him, to leave for WCW's rival, WWF. That in itself is interesting on a number of fronts. Back a few years Douglas would always rat on WCW and WWF. It appears ECW is not particularly keen on him either.

Douglas has quite an injury record, not to mention his ability to upset a lot of people wherever he goes. Douglas is, or by now, was, challenging his contract with WCW in Feb 2000. It will be interesting to see what direction that takes.

One suggestion I have for Mr Douglas, and this not not being "smart"; write a book. The thing would have to sell. In the past six months the following wrestlers have released books, and all appear to have strong sales; Mick Foley, The Rock, Dynamite Kid, DDP and Chyna's is next. Who's to say Douglas's book would not be red hot. Only thing is, he may end up with a contract on his head if he releases a "hard-core", truthful version!

I don't particularly like, or dislike Douglas, but I felt he was worth some of my time to build a mini tribute, since I've done tributes for so many other wrestlers.

I'm going to send my Shane Douglas URL to him, via his Website, ShaneDouglas.com to get some feedback, or some constructive criticism from him!

Please e-mail me any Shane Douglas material such as stories, graphics etc.

The Shane Douglas Hate List! (These are just some of the people in pro wrestling that Douglas has "heat" with) - hell, it would probably be easier to write a list of people he doesn't have "heat with"!

Wrestler/ Personality
Particulars
Scott Hall (Razor Ramon)
Not exactly sure of the reason for the "heat" but they hated working with each other
Shawn Michaels
In the WWF at In Your House 4, Michaels was forced to hand deliver the I/C belt to Douglas
Ric Flair
Douglas has been bad mouthing Flair since the mid 90's. Only he knows how much is a "work"
The Radicals
Benoit, Malenko, Guerrero & Saturn left Douglas in WCW, when they left for WWF Feb 2000

NB: This list is likely to be out of date, as Douglas seems to be continually making new enemies!

The Report Card

Before making his World Wrestling Federation debut, Dean Douglas had a section in the wrestling shows called: The Report Card. In this section he would grade wrestlers on their wrestling performance that night.

Sunday, August 27, 1995, SummerSlam After the Razor Ramon vs. Shawn Michaels Intercontinental Championship Ladder match, Dean Douglas graded Razor Ramon badly in his section: The Report Card. So Razor came in to the place where Dean was doing the grading and argued with him, then, Dean tried to punch Razor, but Ramon blocked it, and punched him. This started a feud between these two men.

Saturday, September 9, 1995, SuperStars Dean Douglas made his wrestling debut on SuperStars against the 1-2-3 Kid. During this match, while Dean was in control, Razor came into the ring, but Dean punched him down into the arena floor. Then, Razor tried to get back in the ring again, but one more time, Dean punched him down. On the third try to get his hands on Dean, Razor got lucky and was able to throw Dean out of the ring. Because of Ramon’s interference, The 1-2-3 Kid got disqualified.

Monday, September 11, 1995, Monday Night Raw During a match between Razor Ramon and The British Bulldog, Razor was able to Razor’s Edge The Bulldog. Then, Razor went for the cover but the referee was knocked out. Dean Douglas saw the opportunity and took it, he came into the ring, climbed to the top rope, and elbowed Razor in the back of the head. Because of this interference, The British Bulldog was able to do his Running Powerslam on Razor. Bulldog went for the cover, the referee woke up. The 1-2-3 Kid came in to help Razor. Dean Douglas left ringside. The Kid tried to splash Bulldog, but he moved out of the way and The Kid splashed Razor. The referee saw this and disqualified Razor, making The British Bulldog the victor in this match.

Monday, September 18, 1995, Monday Night Raw In a match between The 1-2-3 Kid and Razor Ramon, the referee, The Kid and Razor collided, knocking each other out. The Kid and the referee fell out of the ring, but Razor stayed motionless in the center. A few seconds later, Dean Douglas came into the ring and climbed to the top rope. The, Dean splashed Razor. Minutes later, The Kid and the referee woke up and climbed back into the ring. The Kid saw that Razor was knocked out, so he covered him and the referee counted 1-2-3.

Sunday, September 24, 1995, In Your House 3 One of the matches in the lineup for this pay-per-view event was Razor Ramon vs. Dean Douglas. Surprisingly, Mr. Bob Backlund introduced Dean Douglas to the ring, and Dean introduced Razor. During this match, the referee got run over and was knocked out. Razor, without knowing that the referee was out, Razor’s Edged Dean and covered him. The 1-2-3 Kid came down to the ring and counted to three. Razor though that he had won the match until he saw The Kid and realized what had happened. While Razor was arguing with The Kid, Dean covered Razor with a handful of tights by rolling him up from behind, the referee got up, and counted 1-2-3. One more victory for Dean Douglas.

Monday, October 2, 1995, Monday Night Raw In a match between Razor Ramon and The 1-2-3 Kid, Dean came down to ringside with a clipboard with paper and pen. He was writing something on the paper in clipboard and was also nodding his head from time to time. Dean did not interfere in this match. Razor ended up wining it. But the Kid wanted one more. Razor won that one. The Kid wanted another. Razor won that one. After the last match, Razor and The Kid shook hands.

Saturday, October 7, 1995, SuperStars Dean Douglas faced and beat Barry Horowitz with The Final Exam, (which is exactly like the Perfect Plex). During this match, Skip, Sunny and Rad Radford came to ringside, they did not interfere in the match in any way. Rad was just asking Skip if he could be a Body Donna. Skip did not answer.

Monday, October 9, 1995, Monday Night Raw After the six men tag match featuring the team of Diesel, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker vs. the team Yokozuna, Owen Hart and The British Bulldog, Dean Douglas came to ringside and beat up Shawn Michaels, who was on the outside. Dean rammed Shawn’s back against the side of the ring and threw him onto the steel steps. This started a feud between these two men. Later on, the president of the WWF, Gorilla Monsoon, fined Dean and Mabel 7 500 dollars each. By the way, Yokozuna’s team won after the Running Powerslam from Bulldog and a leg drop from Yokozuna on Diesel. Bulldog pinned Diesel.

Saturday, October 14, 1995, SuperStars During a non-title match between champion Diesel and Waylon Mercy, The British Bulldog came down to ringside to watch the match. Diesel then attacked him. Shawn Michaels was trying to brake it up when Dean Douglas came down and tried to fight Shawn. Dean didn't get a punch on Shawn, but Michaels got one slap. The referees broke it up a few seconds later. Diesel lost his match against Waylon by a count-out.

Saturday, October 21, 1995, SuperStars In this card, Dean Douglas faced and beat Hakushi with the Final Exam. During this match, Skip, Sunny and Rad Radford came to ringside. They did not interfere. Rad was just asking if he could be a Body Donna, he also said that he could beat Hakushi.

Sunday, October 22, 1995, In Your House 4 Earlier in the card, Gorilla Monsoon announced that Shawn Michaels would not be allowed to wrestle due to a beating he took in New York that injured his face and body. That night, Shawn would have to give up the belt to Dean Douglas, making Dean, for the first time, an IC champ. But Dean would have to defend the title that night against Razor Ramon who also had a tag team title shot with the 1-2-3 Kid against the Smoking Gunns. During this tag match, the cameras showed Dean in a room watching the match through a television and taking notes. The Kid and Razor lost this match. After a few more matches, Shawn made his way to the ring and gave Dean Douglas the title. A few minutes later, Razor was introduced to the ring. Razor won this match rather cheaply, he pinned Dean while Dean had his foot outside the ring, also, Razor’s shoulders were down too.

Monday, November 13, 1995, Monday Night Raw In a non-title match which featured Sid vs. Razor Ramon (Intercontinental Champion), Dean came to the ringside and beat up Razor who was on the outside. The match ended with a Powerbomb form Sid and a quick count form the guest referee the 1-2-3 Kid. After the match, Dean, Yokozuna, Owen and Jim Cornette had an interview about the upcoming Survivor Series. Cornette said the Dean attacked Razor because he had Dean’s title. Suddenly, Razor Ramon came into the interview area and wanted to attack Dean but officials broke it up.

Sunday, November 19, 1995, Survivor Series ‘95 After the opening Survivor Series match, Dean Douglas, Yokozuna and Owen Hart gave a little speech about the upcoming “wild card” match that they would have on the same night. They talked about their fourth partner: Razor Ramon which they all hated. A few Survivor Series matches later, Dean’s team (Yokozuna, Owen Hart, Razor and Dean) was introduced to the ring, moments later, Shawn Michaels’ team (Ahmed Johnson, Sid, British Bulldog and Shawn) was introduced. Unfortunately for Dean, he was the first man eliminated after a punch from his own teammate Razor and a roll-up by Shawn. This Survivor Series match ended with Bulldog, Shawn and Ahmed as the survivors.

Monday, November 27, 1995, Monday Night RAW After an Ahmed vs. Rad Radford match (which Ahmed won), Jerry Lawler interviewed Ahmed. During the interview, Dean Douglas came down and started arguing with Ahmed. Ahmed said that he wanted to fight right there. Dean accepted but before they could fight, officials broke it up.

Saturday, December 9, 1995, SuperStars Bob Backlund introduced Dean Douglas into the ring. Before the bell, Backlund gave Dean a small green paddle that Dean calls "The Board of Education" with the words "THE DEAN" written on it. Dean Douglas beat the jobber he was facing with the final exam, when the match ended, Dean grabbed his paddle and hit the jobber with it. Ahmed said a few words during Dean’s entrance to the ring.

Saturday, December 16, 1995, SuperStars During Ahmed’s match against Isaac Yankem, Dean said a few words about the upcoming match the next day at In Your House 5. Sunday, December 17, 1995, In Your House 5 Dean Douglas was introduced to the ring to wrestler Ahmed Johnson but unfortunately he did not wrestle that night, he said that the doctors would not let him wrestle because of injury. Therefore, Dean introduce one of his "graduates" to the ring to wrestle Ahmed. This wrestler was none other than "Nature Boy" Buddy Landel. Buddy lost to Ahmed in around 43 seconds after the Pearl River Plunge. After the match, Ahmed picked up the miniature paddle called "The Board of Education" and hit Dean with it in the butt. Then, Lawler interview Ahmed, during the interview, Jeff Jarret (who had just made his comeback to the WWF) hit Ahmed in the back of the head with the Gold CD award Jerry had given him earlier. Jarret and Jerry hit Ahmed with a chair and threw him into the ring post. Ahmed later got up and chased Jarrett back to the dressing room.
