FORMER NWA CHAMPION RICKY STEAMBOAT TO APPEAR ON DEBUT OF NWA-TNA: TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION
J Sports and Entertainment is proud to announce that legendary former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ricky Steamboat will appear on the first episode of NWA-TNA: Total Nonstop Action which broadcasts live from Huntsville AL on June 19.
Steamboat will join two other former NWA World Heavyweight Champions, Harley Race and Dory Funk Jr, on the first broadcast.
"Ricky Steamboat was a tremendous competitor and is a great ambassador for the wrestling business, and we're happy he will be a part of our first broadcast," said J Sports & Entertainment CEO Jerry Jarrett. "Ricky Steamboat, Harley Race, and Dory Funk Jr are three of the finest champions in the history of the NWA, and we are honored that they will be on hand as we crown a new NWA World Heavyweight Champion in Huntsville."
The main event of the first broadcast of NWA-TNA: Total Nonstop Action will be a special "Gauntlet for the Gold" match featuring top stars from around the world.
Two participants will begin the match, with an additional entrant joining the contest every ninety seconds. Elimination will take place when a competitor is thrown over the top rope to the floor. When only two men are left in the ring, NWA rules will go into effect and a winner will be determined by pinfall or submission. The winner of the "Gauntlet for the Gold" match will be declared the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion.
Scott Hall, Ken Shamrock, Jeff Jarrett, Gran Apolo, Brian Christopher, and Marcus Bagwell have already been announced as being the first entrants, and more participants in "Gauntlet for the Gold" will be announced on NWATNA.com later this week.
NWA-TNA: Total Nonstop Action will premiere at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, AL on June 19, 2002. The first ever PPV broadcast from Huntsville will air live nationwide on cable and satellite providers at 8pm EST/7pm CST.
Tickets are on sale now at all Ticketmaster locations and at the Von Braun Center Box Office. Tickets are available for $35, $25 and $18.
NWA-TNA: Total Nonstop Action will broadcast every Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on national cable and satellite providers with an encore presentation scheduled for the following Sunday at Noon ET (time approximate). The suggested pay-per-view retail price for each event is just $9.95.
