MWF
THE HISTORY OF THE MWF
(Updated September 13, 2002)
The Millennium Wrestling Federation, based in Melrose,Massachusetts, was the
vision of Dan Mirade and Neil Manolian, established in January of 2001. It's
goal remains to provide wrestling fans with quality wrestling featuring hungry
young athletes and superstars of the past, free of false and misleading advertising,
with a heavy dose of respect to wrestling's history.
The MWF's first event came on the heels of the September 11th attacks on September 28th, 2001 in Revere, MA. Top stars included Road Dogg, "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka, Grandmaster Sexay, Chris Chetti and Little Guido. Tiger Mulligan defeated Judas Young, "Slyk" Wagner Brown beat Brian Jury. A special raffle was set up to benefit the American Red Cross, and the MWF was off and running.
The MWF returned to Revere in December of 2001 with a special benefit for "Bushwhacker Butch." Butch becameill in the fall of 2001, racking up a half million dollars in medical bills. The reaction was tremendous, with donations from stars all over the country. Road Dogg, Chris Harvard from WWF Tough Enough 1, Nova, Chris Chetti and Little Guido were in action. "Slyk" Wagner Brown beat Dylan Kage (with April Hunter's help) in the show stealer, and Tiger Mulligan continued his winning ways by defeating Brian Jury. Attendance was up 25% from the first event. However, this event was a black eye because of Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, who stole money from the benefit, no-showing the event, and never returing money meant for a sick man. To this day, the money hasn't been returned. However, on a more positive note, Neidhart has not wrestled in the United States since.
Going into the new year, independent wrestling
in the Boston area had become watered down, too many promotions (and too many
promotions that had no place calling what they did "wrestling). The MWF
decided to
hold off running live events until we had a regular television program to better
promote them. That didn't mean Millennium was quiet.
Since day one, our passion has been helping those less fortunate, especially those in the wrestling business. Short of the Calliflower Alley Club, there are no special interests groups looking to give sick or injured wrestlers a helping hand. In the first half of 2002, we ran benefit raffles at NWA New England and Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame events.
The summer of 2002 brought us the announcement of "MWF Xtra," our weekly TV show, which debuted September 8th. Dr. Von Johnson's "Call To Action!" campaign brought great talents such as "Mr. Spotlight" Jeff Starr and "2Xtreme" John Brooks to the MWF. And a doubleheader was planned to benefit former WWF World Champion "Superstar" Billy Graham for October 5th.
